I first heard the term Globalist when my new friend and colleague, Peri Shawn, burst out with it. She said, “Melissa! You’re a Globalist!” It immediately made sense to me. My background in intercultural communication combined with having worked on projects all around the world has given me special insight into what it means to be effective when working globally. Whether the project is one of successful global expansion, creating high-performing cross cultural teams, or working with executives who need to re-vamp the culture of their organizations, I consistently view it from the perspective of someone who has worked and lived in many cultures. This insight, which I feel very fortunate to have acquired, is only going to become more valuable as individuals and companies increasingly do business worldwide. You don’t have to live or work abroad, but you do have to make a conscious effort to develop knowledge and skills in cross cultural communication.
